Achieve root on G900W8VLU1BOB3 5.0 Lollipop update on Canadian Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-N900W8. To root the G900W8VLU1BOB3 Lollipop update, you can still use the CF-Auto-Root "hltecan-hlteevl-smn900w8" version. This root method have had been used on older 4.4.2 KitKat updates but the main consequences on this root method is that it will trip the KNOX counter to '0x1' from the untouched warranty counter '0x0'. The rooting process is yet simple for those who already done some rooting before, but if you are new in rooting you might have to keep in mind that there is a risk involves and some downside on a rooted phone. One of these is that you might not be able to get the official OTA update anymore and you have to learn how to unroot and restore back your phone to its official state.
And here's another confirmation that the CF-Auto-Root do worked.

In addition, some fellas at XDA-developers had tested the CF-Auto-root method and confirmed that it worked finely on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update G900W8VLU1BOB3.
Anyways, if anyone finds a root method that works, can you please share it here ?

Note that it did trip knox 0x1 and now I can't software update OTA anymore since it's custom.
Root works though! even after restarting many times.

no way tried this procedure with odin...no luck
ReplyDeleteYou may try the other way then, some folks at XDA suggested that TWRP and SuperSU method worked.
ReplyDeleteTried above method and appeared to work for awhile. However, phone froze later and would not restart with any method. Has to flash phone and do a full Wipe. Now ok. Note: I'm on Rogers and this md5 has bell icons in the os?
