This week Samsung has started to pushed the Marshmallow update to some select major carrier in Europe while leaving the unbranded or unlocked version of the Galaxy S5 a one step behind. The said Android MM were packed in build version G900FXXU1CPD3, and were released in phases on carrier branded Galaxy S5 devices. It seems like the unlocked version of Galaxy S5 SM-G900F Marshmallow update will still take for some time to arrive or might also follow very shortly.
This update were also packed with the latest security patches, to which addressed up to the month of April 2, 2016. It has been rolled out on Vodafone, Si.Mobil, Vipnet and among other select carrier's Galaxy S5 SM-G900F in Europe alone.
Those who have not received the update yet, you folks might better manually check it via Over-the-air (OTA) update or using Kies. Below are the guides that show you the basic instructions on how to perform a software update on your Samsung Galaxy S5.
Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update. I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your phone in safe.
Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”. If this happened on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.
Backup important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.
Ensure that your Galaxy S5 should still running in an official or factory firmware and hasn’t been rooted – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there are some certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900F may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

ReplyDeleteWhere did you take the update? If its via over the air (OTA) a Factory reset will resolve that issue but this will delete all your data. Turn Off the device, then hold down Volume Down+Home+Power button simultaneously. When the phone sets in Recovery mode, simply select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
