The speculation has been widespread. Some suggest that the Exynos 2600 application processor (AP), produced by Samsung Foundry using its 2nm GAA technology, will be the driving force behind the majority of the Samsung Galaxy S26 models, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra in certain regions. Previously, Samsung Foundry encountered challenges with the yield of its 3nm production, resulting in a shortage of Exynos 2500 APs for the Galaxy S25 series. The standard Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra models are all equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. This marks a shift from previous models, such as the Galaxy S24 series, which used both Snapdragon and Samsung's own Exynos chipsets, depending on the region. While during Qualcomm's recent earnings call following the release of its fiscal Q4 earnings, the company said that it expected its new Snapdragon chip to be found in 75 percent of the Galaxy S26 handsets. AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 (G920A), Galaxy S6 edge (G925A), Galaxy S6 edge+ (G928A), and the Galaxy S6 active (G890A) are all getting the January 2017 Android security patch updates. The over the air update release schedule starts on February 8, 2017, and the rolls out has begun as we speak. These were just minor OTA updates that varies from 16 MB up to 50 MB on each devices.
In addition, these updates has still stayed in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and not Android Nougat update that we've been waiting for. Speaking of the Nougat updates, we already seen that it's already been lurking around in the corner and are about to emerge anytime soon. So just until then only AT&T will decide to when it could be the roll out begins.
Anyways, here are the technical details on each device updates:
This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, or S6 active to the latest software version. This method is what we called Firmware Update Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download. This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection, and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.
Here’s how to do it manually:
It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.
But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.” This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware. So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, and S6 edge+ first, and or removed any changes that has been installed in it.

Device Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)
