Sprint Galaxy S5 is getting an update to build version G900PVPS3CQA2, bringing the January 2017 Android security patch update. It's just a small OTA update that only weighs at 27 MB in file size. By judging by its size it's rather nothing new at all and we cannot expect any adverse effect to the device. This update will bump up the device current Android Marshmallow OS from build version G900PVPU3CPL2 to G900PVPS3CQA2.
Anyways, the January security patch contains 67 patches for Android's Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), along with 28 patches for Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE).
Previous updates:
Again, the G900PVPS3CQA2 update size only weighs at 27.3 MB to download either via Over-The-Air (OTA) and or by using Kies/Smart Switch for PC. The rolls out is in phased basis, and it may take into several days before it will completely arrives on all Sprint Galaxy S5 owners.
Yet, if you haven’t received the notification message, you may manually check the update from time to time until it tells you that the new update is available for grab. Simply just tap on your Galaxy S5 Settings > About device > Software update > Check for update.
Also, keep in mind that you can only get the new update if your device has not been rooted and or currently running on a modified firmware. You must unroot your device first before taking an OTA update so your device may not get into any issues.
